"Dedicated to the American farmer," the slogan of the Machine Shed, leaves no doubt as to their point of view. The restaurant's decor, from the barn-like exterior to the onsite country store, carries through on the farming theme. Comfort food classics such as pot roast, mac & cheese, and their signature baked potato soup are made daily from scratch in Davenport. Hours are 7 a.m. - 9 p.m. daily except Friday and Saturday when doors are open until 10 p.m.

Expand your culinary horizons with an exotic journey just minutes from Moline when you taste the food at D'Savor African Cuisine. Sample unique African flavors in oxtail, Jollof rice, and other traditional dishes. Even spaghetti, a staple of Italian restaurants, gets a facelift with a curry sauce of beef, carrots, and potatoes. D'Savor is open from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. every day but Monday.

Do you think healthy eating means sacrificing taste? Urban Eats offers the community around Dewitt a variety of dishes high in both nutrients and flavor. The menu features a robust selection of soups, salads, and sandwiches made with high-quality ingredients sourced from local providers. Have you made the acquaintance of Chicken George? The iconic dish of Candlelight Inn is well-known to everyone in Clinton. Served with Jan's sauce, a proprietary blend of vinegar and mayonnaise, these chicken tenders are named for the chef who created them. Candlelight Inn uses locally sourced ingredients to boost nutritional and flavor value while supporting area farmers. Candlelight Inn is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. - 9 p.m.

Brazen Open Kitchen + Bar, not far from Dubuque homes for sale, is so proud of their scratch-made food that you can actually watch their chefs at work. In addition to the open kitchen cited in the restaurant's name, Brazen features a classic chef's table that provides an intimate setting for up to a dozen guests. Enjoy a multi-course tasting menu as you see the food being prepared and hear the chef explain his cooking process. Hours are 4:30 - 9 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Sunday.

At Walker Homestead, fresh ingredients for their farm-to-table food are found right outside their front door. The venue is located on an 85-acre farm, including an orchard and vineyard, only minutes from Iowa City homes for sale. Multi-course dinners highlight the farm's bounty with dishes such as curried squash soup, wood-fired pizzas, and roasted duck. Walker Homestead is open to the public Thursday evenings between March and October, but during the off-season, they put on chef's tables, themed mystery dinners, and other special events.

Take a bite out of the Big Apple when you visit Cobble Hill Restaurant. Owners Carrie and Andy Schumacher bring the aura and attitude from their one-time home of Brooklyn to the area around Cedar Rapids. The NYC borough is also where the couple developed a passion for sustainability and locally sourced foods. Beef carpaccio, king oyster mushroom, and sweet potato mochi typify items that might be found on their seasonal menus. Dinner is served 5 - 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 5 - 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Executive chef Tessa Crookshanks, who grew up near Muscatine, uses her extensive training and experience to craft the sophisticated but approachable menu at Maxwell's on the River. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served seven days a week.
