Winter is here, but that doesn't mean healthy eating has to fall by the wayside. Several area restaurants continue to serve delicious and nutritional farm-to-table cuisine using fresh ingredients. Our real estate agents share some of their favorite spots for a satisfying winter meal.

  • The Tangled Wood - 3636 Tanglewood Road, Bettendorf, IA 52722
    The Tangled Wood takes the concept of a friendly neighborhood gastropub to a new level. In their own words, the owners designed the bar & grill to be a "low-key, high functioning gathering place" to serve the community around Bettendorf. Dine on ahi tuna nachos, crab Rangoon pizza, and other upscale favorites as you listen to live music or watch the big game on their 26 TVs. The Tangled Wood is open from 11 a.m. - 9 p.m. daily except Friday and Saturday, when hours are extended to 10 p.m.
  • The Machine Shed - 7250 Northwest Blvd., Davenport, IA 52806
    "Dedicated to the American farmer," the slogan of the Machine Shed, leaves no doubt as to their point of view. The restaurant's decor, from the barn-like exterior to the onsite country store, carries through on the farming theme. Comfort food classics such as pot roast, mac & cheese, and their signature baked potato soup are made daily from scratch in Davenport. Hours are 7 a.m. - 9 p.m. daily except Friday and Saturday when doors are open until 10 p.m.
  • D'Savor African Cuisine - 689 Avenue of the Cities, East Moline, IL 61244
    Expand your culinary horizons with an exotic journey just minutes from Moline when you taste the food at D'Savor African Cuisine. Sample unique African flavors in oxtail, Jollof rice, and other traditional dishes. Even spaghetti, a staple of Italian restaurants, gets a facelift with a curry sauce of beef, carrots, and potatoes. D'Savor is open from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. every day but Monday.
  • Urban Eats - 804 6th Ave., Dewitt, IA 52742
    Do you think healthy eating means sacrificing taste? Urban Eats offers the community around Dewitt a variety of dishes high in both nutrients and flavor. The menu features a robust selection of soups, salads, and sandwiches made with high-quality ingredients sourced from local providers. Follow them on Facebook for information about daily specials such as a luscious blueberry cream cheese grilled cheese on sourdough. Hours are 10:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. weekdays and 10:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. Saturday.
  • Candlelight Inn - 511 Riverview Drive, Clinton, IA 52732
    Have you made the acquaintance of Chicken George? The iconic dish of Candlelight Inn is well-known to everyone in Clinton. Served with Jan's sauce, a proprietary blend of vinegar and mayonnaise, these chicken tenders are named for the chef who created them. Candlelight Inn uses locally sourced ingredients to boost nutritional and flavor value while supporting area farmers. Candlelight Inn is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. - 9 p.m.
  • Brazen Open Kitchen + Bar - 955 Washington St., Suite 101, Dubuque, IA 52001
    Brazen Open Kitchen + Bar, not far from Dubuque homes for sale, is so proud of their scratch-made food that you can actually watch their chefs at work. In addition to the open kitchen cited in the restaurant's name, Brazen features a classic chef's table that provides an intimate setting for up to a dozen guests. Enjoy a multi-course tasting menu as you see the food being prepared and hear the chef explain his cooking process. Hours are 4:30 - 9 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Sunday.
  • Walker Homestead - 3867 James Ave. SW, Iowa City, IA 52246
    At Walker Homestead, fresh ingredients for their farm-to-table food are found right outside their front door. The venue is located on an 85-acre farm, including an orchard and vineyard, only minutes from Iowa City homes for sale. Multi-course dinners highlight the farm's bounty with dishes such as curried squash soup, wood-fired pizzas, and roasted duck. Walker Homestead is open to the public Thursday evenings between March and October, but during the off-season, they put on chef's tables, themed mystery dinners, and other special events.
  • Cobble Hill Restaurant - 219 2nd St. SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52401
    Take a bite out of the Big Apple when you visit Cobble Hill Restaurant. Owners Carrie and Andy Schumacher bring the aura and attitude from their one-time home of Brooklyn to the area around Cedar Rapids. The NYC borough is also where the couple developed a passion for sustainability and locally sourced foods. Beef carpaccio, king oyster mushroom, and sweet potato mochi typify items that might be found on their seasonal menus. Dinner is served 5 - 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 5 - 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
  • Maxwell's on the River - Merrill Hotel & Conference Center, 119 W. Mississippi Drive, Muscatine, IA 52761
    Executive chef Tessa Crookshanks, who grew up near Muscatine, uses her extensive training and experience to craft the sophisticated but approachable menu at Maxwell's on the River. Take in scenic views of the Mississippi River as you dine on brisket hash, crab cakes, filet mignon, and other elevated American cuisine dishes. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served seven days a week.
  • Martini's Grille - 610 N. 4th St., Suite 400, Burlington, IA 52601
    Martini's Grille
    adds some unexpected touches to the classic menu choices of a Midwest steakhouse. Start with an order of their signature Chicken Lips, a twist on Buffalo wings served with Budweiser bleu cheese dressing. Can't make up your mind? The Grazing Experience offers a well-rounded tasting menu of the top dishes, including Chicken Lips as well as Caribbean pork chops, Iowa pasta carbonara, and dim sum green beans. Plan a relaxing dinner after a day of viewing Burlington homes for sale. Hours are 4 - 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 4 - 10 p.m. Friday, and 5 - 10 p.m. Saturday.
