Dubuque Iowa Listed Within Top 10 Great Cities
Dubuque is a great place to live! Of course we always knew that but Kiplingers Personal Finance Magazine thinks it too.
According to Kiplinger, what makes a city great is: "good jobs, reasonably priced homes, decent schools, great health care and manageable size are all a part of the mix." Dubuque, rated #10 on Kiplinger's recent list of Great Cities That Have It All. Kiplingers started with the metro areas that have a population of 1 million or less and then whittled the list down to the top 10. Criteria included economic growth (jobs and wages), education (the percentage of the population with a bachelor's degree or higher), housing affordability (cost and regional income levels), doctors per capita, school quality (student teacher ration), and cultural and natural amenities. Trust us, Dubuque fits these criteria to a 'T'. Those ranking the cities loved how Dubuque has grown both physically and economically. Rising from a small economically challenged riverfront town, Dubuque's downtown area now houses an array of eclectic restaurants and shops, the new convention center with aquarium and museum, along with a restoration of the Star Brewery building housing Ruhl&Ruhl's Dubuque real estate office. Being home to three private liberal arts colleges helps the town physically and economically, along with other top name employers, such as, John Deere and IBM. The design of the houses for sale in Dubuque vary anywhere from 19th-century restoration homes to new construction. Dubuque is currently building out the Millwork District, where more than one million square feet of abandoned warehouse space is being converted into shops and historic lofts.
