March

You may have heard the saying, "If you're lucky enough to be Irish - you're lucky enough!" But you also might have heard the expression, "Everyone is Irish on St. Paddy's Day." Whichever quote you chose to support, either way, we wish you a Happy St. Patrick's Day!   Many events in our communities are celebrating St. Paddy's Day this weekend. Here's a list of family-friendly parades and races throughout Iowa and Illinois that should be a fun time for all. Have a wonderful, safe, and prosperous holiday!

Quad Cities

Grand Parade XXXVI - This Saturday, March 12th the St. Patrick Society will hold The Grand Parade XXXVI. The event begins after mass at St. Mary's in Rock Island and the parade follows at 11:30 AM at 4th Avenue and 23rd St. in Rock Island, IL.  As the "nation's only bi-state parade" the parade will go through downtown Rock Island and will travel across the Talbot/Centennial Bridge to proceed through downtown Davenport.  Noteworthy - Watch for the River Bend Foodbank truck ahead of the Grand Parade to make a donation, The St. Patrick's Society and River Bend Foodbank have banded together to collect monetary donations.

Saint Patrick's Day Bash at the Mississippi Fairgrounds

If you're looking for all-day fun, check out the Saint Patrick's Day Bash, it's back and it's free admission! There is something for everyone with fair food vendors, kids zone, music, and a parade! Doors open on Friday and festivities continue through Saturday. The parade begins at 3:15 on Saturday but go early and see what else the bash has to offer.

St. Patrick's Day Race

CASI is holding the 40th Annual St. Patrick's Day Races before the parade on Saturday, March 12.  All of the races start and finish at 129 Main St. in Davenport. There are three races that are still open for registration. Click here to register.

Shamrock Shimmy

It's still on! And although the Shamrock Shimmy 5k is closed to registrations the Mini Shimmy or Kids Fun Run requires no registration. Children of all ages are encouraged to show up, run and have fun!  The Mini Shimmy is on Saturday, March 12th. The race starts at 8:00 am.  Unfortunately, the St. Patrick's Day parade that follows the Shamrock Shimmy has been postponed until 2023.  More Tri-state area activities can be found here. Of course, there are a ton of not-so-family-friendly activities to do on St. Patrick's Day as well. Support your local breweries, pubs are downtown establishments, many are hosting festive all-day events with no shortage of corned beef, cabbage, and Guinness!       Photo from B100
