"Every child deserves to not only know where they will lay their heads down at night, but to also feel the love of family and self-worth." - Darcy Jacks, Moline Office Adam After Three Months On April 6 th, Darcy Jacks had a simple mission: Collect gently used bags and luggage for children in foster care. The two women work in the Moline office of Ruhl&Ruhl Realtors, where many have been blessed to have been personally touched by orphan care, and Darcy's family was one of them. That being the case, Darcy learned first-hand that the children move from family to family with their belongings in only a garbage bag or a grocery sack. "I can only imagine this is a reflection of how they feel deep down inside," Darcy says. Picking Up Adam "When we picked up our son, he was three years old, and had been passed around to three different families. What little our son had was left behind or lost by the time he had reached us. We picked him up with the clothes on his back, which did not fit, and had holes. His shoes were too small, and he had no toothbrush or underwear. He was scared, and his spirit and soul were crushed. It was as if he never learned to smile. Final Bags Count Darcy was determined to ensure no child felt like that ever again. She believes that showing any love to a child while in the orphan stage can truly give them a "sense of self-worth" and "awaken the broken spirit." And so, she brought the "bags for kids" idea forward to her office. Overall, Darcy collected over 120 bags for kids, and made the note that they lost count, due to the generosity of the community. A huge thank you to everyone who donated bags for the children! And another thank you to Darcy for organizing this amazing drive!
