Folletts, Iowa was first settled in 1837 when William Follett established a ferry service across the Wapsipinicon River near the present-day community. The arrival of the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad helped the area grow, and Folletts soon became an important trade stop for goods traveling to and from Chicago. A post office was established in 1884, serving the growing settlement until it was discontinued in 1933. Folletts remained a significant local transportation and trading hub until the economic challenges of the Great Depression led to a decline in activity.
