Balltown, IA was founded in the mid-1850s. The town was named after John Ball, an early settler who was known for living on a river island in the area.
Balltown is home to Iowa’s oldest restaurant and bar. Breitbach’s Country Dining opened in 1852 and has been operated by the Breitbach family since 1862. Originally a stagecoach stop, the restaurant soon became a go-to destination for travelers and residents. Across from the restaurant, find gifts, plants, and antiques at Skip Breitbach Feeds. The town is also home to Balltown Lions Club Park and Pavilion. This park has a variety of play equipment and green space available to the public.
