Originally known as Deanington, the village of Orion, Illinois was founded on December 26, 1853. From its earliest days, the community has been shaped by residents who take pride in maintaining and improving their hometown. Over the years, local volunteers and civic groups have worked together on projects ranging from building parks to restoring community landmarks such as the town bandshell, helping preserve Orion’s welcoming character and shared spaces.

This strong sense of community pride continues today. In 2018, Orion celebrated an important milestone with a bicentennial-style community celebration, featuring Civil War–era music and traditional period dancing. Events like these reflect Orion’s commitment to honoring its history while bringing residents together to celebrate the town’s heritage and future.

Central Park:
Central Park is a centerpiece of the Orion community and home to the town’s beautiful historic bandstand. Built in 1913 and recently restored, the bandstand serves as a gathering place for concerts, festivals, and community events throughout the year. The park also includes shelters that are available for local residents to rent, making it a popular location for family gatherings, picnics, and celebrations.

Love Park:
Another popular gathering place in Orion is Love Park, which offers a variety of recreational amenities for residents. The park features baseball and softball fields along with shelters that can be reserved for events and community activities. With its open green spaces and sports facilities, Love Park provides a welcoming setting for local games, outdoor fun, and neighborhood gatherings.

Orion Fall Festival:
The Orion Fall Festival is a beloved annual tradition held in Central Park during Labor Day weekend. The event brings the community together while raising funds to support the local school system. Festival activities include carnival rides, arts and crafts vendors, a community parade, and a 5K run, offering something for all ages. One of the most anticipated highlights is the popular pie auction, where attendees bid on homemade pies and baked goods—a fun and delicious way to support the community.

Triple E Rentals:
For those who enjoy outdoor recreation and country living, Triple E Rentals provides equipment for a wide range of activities. Visitors and residents can rent ATVs, snowmobiles, and other recreational vehicles, making it easy to explore the surrounding rural landscapes throughout the year.
