Port Byron is located in Rock Island County—only a few minutes away from the Quad Cities. Being along the east bank of the Mississippi River it gives the town an opportunity to enjoy all the joys of living waterfront and allows quick access to the quaint town of LeClaire for antique shopping. Most recently, the Metrolink bus service added Port Byron to their route giving its residents access to all of the other stops the Metrolink visits.
If there is one event Port Byron is known for it is Tug Fest, which is a tug of war across the river between Port Byron and LeClaire. The event includes a grand fireworks display, a parade, a 5K run, a rib cook-off, a kids tug, and the main event. Traffic on the Mississippi River is shut down for this event. A rope is run across the river with one end in Port Byron and the other end in LeClaire. There are about a dozen tug events over a two-hour period. This has been an annual event since about 1987.
