About East Moline

East Moline, IL—located on the south bank of the Mississippi River—is a budding city with a lot of charm and a growing small business community. In fact, it’s actually part of the Quad Cities! The Quad Cities are actually made up of five cities, not four, and East Moline completes the bunch. Davenport, Moline, Rock Island, Bettendorf, and East Moline are the five main cities in the Quad Cities. But other towns like Eldridge, Le Claire, Coal Valley, Silvis, Milan, and Port Byron all make up the Quad Cities as well. East Moline is located in Rock Island County, about 7 miles from Davenport, and about 145 miles from Chicago.

East Moline History

East Moline resulted from the efforts of the East Moline Company to sell land and create a town. The planned town was platted in 1895. A land auction was held by the company, but they succeeded in selling only 5 of 2,000 lots. Development was significantly delayed. Deere & Company established a factory here in 1900 and other companies followed. East Moline was incorporated as a village in 1903 and as a city in 1907.

While the city itself had a slow start, once the Union Malleable Iron Company was built in 1900, East Moline began seeing quite a bit of growth. Fun fact? We also have Henry C. Duke and his son, Gene, to thank for soft-serve ice cream! The two invented the world’s first pressurized soft-serve ice cream freezer in 1946 which they built for the up-and-coming ice cream franchise we all now know as Dairy Queen.

Community

East Moline is located on the south bank of the Mississippi River directly east of Moline. The city covers an area of 9.02 square miles and has a population density of 2,337 people/square mile. With the close proximity to the river and historical neighborhoods, East Moline offers a variety of properties for your family to find the right home.

Attractions & Entertainment

There are so many attractions to choose from in East Moline, from a local farmers market to the East Moline Speedway, you will find many activities to keep both you and your family busy. Visit the famous John Deere Factory to take a tour or boat on the Mississippi River from many of the areas access points. Take a ride on the bike path through all of the Quad Cities even crossing the river to Iowa. When the weather is warm visit the nearby Rock Island County Fairgrounds or the TPC golf course in Silvis, home of the John Deere Classic.
