Meet Vegas, The Dog-O-Ween Winner

by Nikki Lindholm

On Saturday, October 30th, our Moline Office hosted its first Dog-O-Ween event which featured a dog costume photo contest. The competition was stiff but little Vegas claimed the grand prize with her perfectly executed Baby Yoda costume. Learn more about Vegas below!

What is Vegas’ breed?

She is a Scottish Terrier and Chihuahua Mix!

How and when did she join your family?

We rescued Vegas in early October 2017, just a couple days after the Las Vegas shooting. We went to the shelter on a spontaneous outing and had no intentions of finding a dog that day. Our last dog had a tragic passing and my family and I were still in grief with that until we walked in and saw Vegas!

She was in the first kennel that we saw and I was so fixated on her that I didn’t even go look at the other dogs, I knew she was the one!

We knew that she had been mistreated before we got her, she couldn’t bark at all, she was really dirty and really skinny. The shelter told us that they found her walking alone in downtown Davenport. From that moment we knew that we had to take her home. We named her Vegas because of the victims that lost their lives. My dad said, “many people lost their lives that day, and we are saving one.”

What is her personality like?

She’s very shy around new people and very territorial around her owners and property. She is very wild at times and very sweet and patient. She loves babies and kids!

What is her favorite activity?

Since she is an older dog, her favorite activity is sleeping and cuddling. She also loves running up and down my grandma’s tall hill in her backyard.

What is your favorite Vegas story?

My favorite Vegas story is when she would hunt and chase ground squirrels at my grandma’s house.

Is she a Star Wars fan?

Not quite sure! We watched The Mandalorian and fell in love with Baby Yoda, so when we saw the costume we figured that would be perfect for her.

What is Vegas’ most Yoda-like quality?

She is very wise and intelligent at her age.
