East Moline resulted from the efforts of the East Moline Company to sell land and create a town. The planned town was platted in 1895. A barbecue and land auction was held by the company, but they succeeded in selling only 5 of 2000 lots. Development was significantly delayed. Deere & Company established a factory here in 1900 and other companies followed. East Moline was incorporated as a village in 1903 and as a city in 1907.
