Sherrill, Iowa, was named after two brothers, Adam and Isaac Sherrill. In 1856, Austrian immigrant Peter Fries built a large stone inn. It became a popular stop and has remained a tourist destination in the time since.
In 1933, Sherrill was named one of ten Dubuque County “Beer Towns” to ensure the local taverns could continue to serve beer under Iowa law.
