Established to incentivize bringing the railroad to the area, Delmar, IA, was platted in 1869. The efforts were successful, and by 1871, railroad tracks intersected the town. The railroad continued to transport passengers until the 1960s, but by the 1980s, only a few freight trains continued their route.
Where the original railroad tracks ran through the center of town, Norton Park now exists. The park offers the perfect spot for walks, events, and outdoor activities.
