Whether you’re local, visiting for the weekend, or just passing through, there’s an impressive amount of mouthwatering options in Dubuque that can satisfy any taste bud. The agents and staff in our Dubuque office shared their favorite spots in town and after reviewing all their recommendations, we agree these are worth trying! Many of these restaurants along Dubuque’s Main Street are housed in old historic buildings, some of which are the oldest in the state.

We hope you enjoy!

Fine & Casual Dining

Featuring a seasonal menu, Pepper Sprout will always keep you guessing. Make sure to make a reservation, as many patrons savor Chef Kim Wolff’s dishes! If you are looking for a more traditional supper club atmosphere, look no further than Timmerman’s Supper Club. With a dining experience that overlooks the Mississippi, you can enjoy your food and your view. Brazen Open Kitchen is the place for you if you appreciate locally sourced, made from scratch meals. Innovative yet approachable, venture to Brazen to try something new. For those who love food and have a strong appreciation for old-world architecture, eating on Main Street, especially at L’May Eatery which is located within a restored building, will do the trick! Tagged as ‘gourmet comfort good’ what’s not to love? The Vault If you enjoy a cocktail with a bit of history with your food, the Vault is the spot for you. Their cocktails are made with a nod to “the history of Dubuque and prohibition worldwide.”

Italian/Pizzeria

Italian lovers, we’ve got you covered! These restaurants are *chefs kiss.*

From the moment you walk into Vinny Vanucchi’s, you are surrounded by true Italian ambiance. From the red and white tablecloths, the music playing in the background, and of course the delicious aroma that greets you at the door. Mario’s Italian Restaurant has been voted “The Best Italian Food since 1998.” And having been open since 1977, they have mastered their craft with generations of tradition. And lastly,  Park Farm Winery is a beautiful place to watch the sunset, have a glass of wine, and have some “amazing pizza”.

Brew Pub

From ‘upscale bar food’ to the ‘best wings around’ these are the selections for delicious eats in a pub-like atmosphere. Suggested by quite a few of our Dubuque office agents, Copper Kettle is a great place to dine for “upscale bar food.” Stop by 1st & Main for a little history with your meal. It was a telegraph office upstairs, and a grocery store downstairs in the late 1800s. So you can imagine that the 19th-century architecture is on full display at this establishment. Also, they pride themselves on being the “hippest, hottest spot in town,” with great food, and lively entertainment. 7 Hills Brewing Co – stop by for a beer but stay for the food! 7 Hills offers a wide variety of tasty treats, all with fun names. As they say, they are “beyond the beer.” Family-owned Thumser’s 19th Hole offers great broasted chicken, burgers, pizza, and more with a mini-golf course to boot. Stop by Knickers to find “burgers, brews, and bikes,” in addition to the food that is anything but ordinary. They pride themselves on breaking with boring bar and grill fare. Catfish Charlies Bar & Grill offers a variety of fish dishes made to perfection. If a fan of cajun spice, Catfish Charlies is for you.  Venture a bit out of Dubuque to The Barn, which is located in Sherrill for delicious bar food, done right! If barbeque is your idea of pub food, add Mason Dixon Saloon to the list. With an in-house smoker the meats at Mason Dixon are mouthwatering and their family bbq sauce has been perfected over generations. The saloon features a bar with two levels, each with its own distinct vibe. The main level, found on Main Street has a rustic, relaxed vibe whereas the lower level bar is open Friday and Saturday with a DJ.

Asian Cuisine

Stop by Pete’s Thai Kitchen and Lina’s Thai Bistro for authentic, delicious Thai food. Dubuque is home to many Asian cuisine restaurants that offer flavorful, traditional dishes, and some with a flare. If craving traditional Chinese cuisine House of China will hit the spot, as you’ll find harmony of taste and aroma in every dish.Looking for Japanese dishes? Check out Ichiban Steak & Sushi Bar for great rolls, hibachi, and bento box options, just to name a few.
