Attractions and Entertainment
In 2008, Cedar Rapids, Iowa experienced a devastating flood of the Cedar River - reaching a record crest of 31.12 feet - 19 feet above flood stage. About 10 square miles, including most the downtown area, were inundated with flood waters, impacting more than 5,000 homes and over 1,000 businesses. Through the help of federal grants, a complete revitalization occurred, with a new main branch of the public library , a hotel and convention center and a new federal courthouse. In addition, the Newbo District , a neighborhood near downtown, has come back to life. The NewBo City Market features local restaurants and is in the heart of the neighborhood, which features performance spaces, shops, artists' studios and the newest Ruhl&Ruhl Realtors office in Cedar Rapids.
