Bettendorf Real Estate

Bettendorf

Bettendorf, Iowa is just one of the many Quad Cities locations served by Ruhl&Ruhl realtors on the Mississippi River. With a population of 32,445, Bettendorf has that small town charm. Although, the total metropolitan area has a population of nearly 400,000 people, so, you'll never be far from a larger city feel. The Quad Cities includes the cities of Davenport, Iowa and Rock Island, Moline, and East Moline, Illinois.

History
Bettendorf is rich in history. The founders originally named the town Lillienthal, after a tavern and dance hall, but merged with an adjacent village name Gilbert in 1858. Around 1900, the Bettendorf brothers took over Gilbert with their ironworks.
Their business evolved into the Bettendorf Axel and Wagon Company, which subsequently became the largest railroad car shop west of the Mississippi River. In recognition of their importance, the town was incorporated as Bettendorf in 1903.
Bettendorf is now home to Alcoa, a world-wide manufacturer of lightweight metals. In 1940, Alcoa built the largest aluminum rolling mill in the world.

Bettendorf Community
Bettendorf is located on the banks of the Mississippi River in Scott County just east of Davenport and directly across the river from Moline. The city covers an area of 22.4 square miles. It has the lowest population density (1,528 people/square mile) and the highest median household income of any of the Quad Cities.

Attractions and Entertainment
Bettendorf offers a variety of cultural and entertainment opportunities. The river, with its waterfront parks, walkways, and Isle of Capri Casino, attracts many people. The Family Museum of Arts and Sciences offers a variety of hands-on exhibits that will keep kids fascinated for hours.
The city is home to three public golf courses, with many others located around the Quad Cities area. Marinas and boat launch facilities foster boating and numerous trails are available for walking, jogging, or bicycling. Attractions and entertainment opportunities for other Quad Cities communities are readily accessible to Bettendorf residents. Start your search of Bettendorf homes for sale.
