How to Get Your Iowa Real Estate License
1) Iowa License Qualifications:

- Must be 18 years of age-no residency or citizenship requirement.
- Not have an application rejected in this or any other state in the last 12 months.
- If professional license of any kind has been revoked in this or any other state a license may be denied on the grounds of the revocation.
- If applicant has been convicted of forgery, embezzlement, obtaining money under false pretenses, theft, extortion, conspiracy to defraud or other similar offense in this or any other state a license may be denied on the grounds of the conviction.

2) Complete 60-Hour Pre-License Test Course (classroom or online)

- Classroom courses offered several times throughout the year.
- Online course can be started at any time and must be completed within 6 months.

3) Complete and Mail Fingerprint Card for State-Required Background Check

- Do this as soon as possible as processing can take 4-10 weeks (completed background check good for 210 days).

4) Successfully Pass Examination

- Exam is given in Cedar Rapids (closest), West Des Moines and Council Bluffs.
- 2 hours allowed for national test (80 questions); 1 hour allowed for state test (40 questions).
- You will receive computerized results immediately following exam. Pass notices and license applications will be given to you at the test site if you received a passing score.
- Passing notice good for 6 months.
