How to Get Y0ur Illinois Real Estate License
1) Illinois Licensing Qualifications:

- Must have a high school education or equivalent.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- If currently owe back child support, payment arrangements must be made and are being met.

2) Take the 45-hour Basic Transactions Pre-License Course.

- The Illinois Department of Professional Regulation requires that each license applicant successfully complete an accredited 45-hour pre-license course. Transcripts for testing will be issued the last night of class, and you need to take these to the test center on the day of your exam.
- Classroom courses offered several times througout the year.
- Online course can be started at any time and must be completed within 6 months.
- Class completion certificate good for three (3) years.
- 45-hour class can be waived if applicant is admitted to practice law by the Illinois Supreme Court (prior approval must be obtained).

3) Successfully Pass Salesperson Real Estate Licensing Exam.

- Exam is given in Rockford (closest), Chicago, Springfield, Carbondale and Champaign-Urbana.
- You will receive computerized test results (pass/fail) immediately following exam. Upon receiving passing score, you will receive sponsor card and application to be submitted to the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation within one (1) year from the exam date.

4) Apply for Licensure

- Complete application and 45-day sponsor card with sponsoring broker - must be sponsored by a broker to obtain a salesperson license in Illinois.
- Once broker signs the 45-day sponsor card you may start practicing real estate while waiting to get your actual license issued. Upon receipt of your license, you may destroy your temporary sponsor card. License arrives within 45 days of application.
