Illinois, otherwise known as the Land of Lincoln, is the most populous and demograhpically diverse Midwestern state and the fifth most populous state in the nation.  It is home to large cities like Chicago,  small industrial cities and great agricultural productivity.

The Quad Cities is the name given to a group of communities on the banks of the Mississippi River – where the states of Iowa and Illinois are joined.  The area is located 165 miles west of Chicago and is the largest urban area along the Mississippi River between Minneapolis and St. Louis.  The Cities are comprised of the Illinois communities of Moline and Rock Island and the Iowa communities of Davenport and Bettendorf. The combined metropolitan population of the Quad Cities is approaching 400,000.

Illinois Quad Cities Communities

East Moline is a part of the Illinois Quad Cities, although it is not usually included in the list of the Quad Cities.  With a population of 20,333, East Moline is the smallest of the cities. The community focuses on economic development and also is home to HC Duke & Sons' ElectroFreeze, the company that manufactures frozen dessert machines for well known companies like Dairy Queen. 

Moline sits between East Moline and Rock Island on the Illinois side of the Quad Cities and has an estimated population of 43,016.  The city is home to the corporate headquarters of Deere & Company, as well as, the Quad Cities International Airport, the third largest airport in Illinois, is also located Moline.  After a revitalization in the mid-1990's, Moline's downtown now serves as one of the recreational hubs of the Quad Cities, with many events taking place at the 12,000 seat iWireless Center and at John Deere Commons.

Rock Island is the county seat of Rock Island County and has a population of 39,684.  The original Rock Island, from which the city gets its name, is the largest island on the Mississippi River and is now known as Arsenal Island, the largest employer in the Quad Cities area and home to the largest government-owned weapons manufacturing arsenal in the United States.  Lock and Dam No. 15 are also located here along the Mississippi River, and therefore bring thru thousands of barges filled with goods a year.
